What the license should say
In California you may see one of these:
- Salesperson
- Licensed to work under the supervision of a licensed broker.
- Broker
- May operate independently or employ salespersons.
- Broker associate
- Broker retained by a responsible broker to work like a salesperson.
The rule to know
A salesperson license covers work done under a licensed broker's supervision, and a salesperson without a responsible broker may not do work that requires a license.
If something goes wrong
The Consumer Recovery Account, funded by licensee fees, can pay people defrauded or harmed by trust fund conversion by a real estate licensee.
