Electrician licenses in
Georgia
Georgia licenses electricians statewide.
Official search run by Georgia State Board of Electrical Contractors (Secretary of State) at goals.sos.ga.gov.
What the license should say
In Georgia you'll see one of these on an electrician's card, bid or truck:
- Class I electrical contractor (restricted)
- Individual; limited to single-phase installations not over 200 amperes at the service drop or lateral.
- Class II electrical contractor (non-restricted)
- Individual; unrestricted electrical contracting.
Hiring a company, not a person?
A Class I or Class II electrical contractor license; the rules do not permit unlicensed practice of electrical contracting.
Doing it yourself
O.C.G.A. 43-14-13(d) lets an individual install, alter or repair plumbing, heating and air conditioning, utility or electrical and low-voltage wiring in a residential dwelling they own or occupy, but the work must still follow state law, board rules and local codes and permit requirements.
