What the license should say
In Georgia you'll see one of these on a plumber's card, bid or truck:
- Journeyman plumber
- Individual; at least one year of plumbing experience; cannot have a plumbing business.
- Class I master plumber
- Individual; limited to single-family and one-level two-family dwellings and commercial structures up to 10,000 square feet.
- Class II master plumber
- Individual; no restrictions.
Hiring a company, not a person?
Only licensed master plumbers may have a plumbing business; the board does not register plumbing companies.
Doing it yourself
O.C.G.A. 43-14-13(d) lets an individual install, alter or repair plumbing, heating and air conditioning, utility or electrical and low-voltage wiring in a residential dwelling they own or occupy, but the work must still follow state law, board rules and local codes and permit requirements.
