What the license should say
In New Hampshire you'll see one of these on an electrician's card, bid or truck:
- Master electrician
- Individual who employs others or does electrical installations for their own account as a business.
- Journeyman electrician
- Individual who installs wiring, conduit and fixtures; must work for a licensed master or licensed entity.
- High/medium voltage electrician
- Individual who works on systems over 600 volts.
- Business entity license
- Corporation, LLC or partnership with a licensed master electrician in charge of its business affairs.
Hiring a company, not a person?
A corporation or partnership may be licensed to make electrical installations only if a licensed master electrician is in charge of its business affairs (RSA 319-C:10); a person who hires others to do electrical work is classified as a master electrician.
Doing it yourself
A homeowner may make electrical installations in or about a single-family residence they own and occupy or will occupy as their bona fide personal abode (RSA 319-C:15, II).
