HVAC licenses in
Delaware
Delaware licenses some HVAC contractors statewide and leaves the rest to cities and counties.
Official search run by Delaware Board of Plumbing, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Examiners (Division of Professional Regulation) at delpros.delaware.gov.
What the license should say
In Delaware you'll see one of these on an HVAC contractor's card, bid or truck:
- Master HVACR
- Individual; full heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration license.
- Master HVACR restricted
- Individual; license limited to one specialty such as air conditioning.
Hiring a company, not a person?
HVACR work must be done by or under a master HVACR or master restricted HVACR licensee (24 Del. C. 1820); county and city contractor licenses are separate.
Doing it yourself
A homeowner may do HVACR work other than gas piping in their own home that is not for sale or rent without a license (24 Del. C. 1820(c)(2)).
City and county licenses
Some places in Delaware also license HVAC contractors locally.
