What the license should say
In Idaho you'll see one of these on a plumber's card, bid or truck:
- Plumbing contractor
- Business or person engaged in the business of plumbing.
- Journeyman plumber
- Individual; 8,000 hours of experience plus four years of approved schooling or 16,000 hours of experience, and passed the IAPMO exam.
- Specialty plumbing contractor or journeyman
- Limited to a specialty category.
Hiring a company, not a person?
A plumbing contractor certificate of competency; no one may engage in the business of plumbing without a state certificate.
Doing it yourself
A person doing plumbing in a single or duplex dwelling they own or are buying is exempt from the certificate requirement but must meet the plumbing standards and rules (Idaho Code 54-2602).
