Plumber licenses in
Maryland
Maryland licenses some plumbers statewide and leaves the rest to cities and counties.
Official search run by Maryland Board of Plumbing (Maryland Department of Labor) at dllr.state.md.us.
What the license should say
In Maryland you'll see one of these on a plumber's card, bid or truck:
- Master plumber/gas fitter
- Individual; only an insured master may contract for plumbing or gas work.
- Journey plumber/gas fitter
- Individual; works under the direction and control of a master plumber.
- Master or journey natural gas fitter
- Individual non-plumber licensed for natural gas work.
Hiring a company, not a person?
Only an insured master plumber may contract for plumbing or gas services, with at least $300,000 bodily injury and $100,000 property damage liability insurance
Doing it yourself
An individual may personally do plumbing work in their own residence but may not make the final connection to a public or private water supply or disposal system (Bus. Occ. and Prof. 12-301(b))
