Plumber licenses in
North Dakota
North Dakota licenses plumbers statewide.

What the license should say
In North Dakota you'll see one of these on a plumber's card, bid or truck:
- Master plumber
- Individual skilled in planning, supervising and installing plumbing; must be in charge of a plumbing business.
- Journeyman plumber
- Individual whose principal occupation is installing, altering and repairing plumbing.
- Sewer and water installer
- Individual or firm that installs and repairs building sewer and water service lines; a contractor plans and manages the work (NDCC 43-18.2-01).
- Water conditioning installer
- Individual who installs and repairs water treatment equipment on a plumbing system; a contractor plans and manages the work and sells or leases the equipment (NDCC 43-18.1-01).
Hiring a company, not a person?
A firm installing plumbing where there is a public water or sewer system must at all times have a registered and licensed master plumber in charge of the work (NDCC 43-18-10); in cities under 1,000 and rural areas a journeyman may run a plumbing business, and the City of Fargo also requires its own city plumbing license in addition to the state license.
Doing it yourself
An unlicensed person may do plumbing work meeting the Board's minimum standards on premises they own and actually occupy as a residence, unless a local ordinance forbids it (NDCC 43-18-11).
