Alaska

What the license should say
In Alaska you'll see one of these on an electrician's card, bid or truck:
- Electrical administrator license
- Individual; supervisory license required for at least one employee of a contractor doing NEC or NESC work, does not allow hands-on work.
- Journeyman electrician certificate of fitness
- Individual; issued by Department of Labor Mechanical Inspection to perform electrical code work.
- Residential wireman certificate of fitness
- Individual; Department of Labor certificate for residential electrical work.
- Specialty contractor with electrical contractor trade
- Business; the state contractor registration an electrical contractor holds.
Hiring a company, not a person?
Specialty contractor registration with Electrical Contractor listed as a trade, plus an electrical administrator license held by or assigned to the contractor.
Doing it yourself
A person working on an existing structure on their own property, or on their own existing residence, is exempt from contractor registration (AS 08.18.161(9)); a certificate of fitness applies to persons employed to perform the work (AS 18.62.010).
