What the license should say
In Arkansas you'll see one of these on an HVAC contractor's card, bid or truck:
- Class A HVACR license
- Individual or business; HVACR work without limit on BTUH or horsepower.
- Class B HVACR license
- Individual or business; air conditioning up to 25 tons per unit, heating up to 1,000,000 BTUH per unit, refrigeration up to 15 hp.
- Class D HVACR license
- Individual or business; sheet metal ductwork for HVACR systems.
- Class E HVACR license
- Individual or business; refrigeration work only, not comfort heating or air conditioning.
- Registrant
- Individual; registered worker who may only perform HVACR work under a Class A, B, D or E licensee.
Hiring a company, not a person?
A Class A, B, D or E HVACR license with general liability insurance, plus an organization registration for the business unless working for an existing licensed business.
Doing it yourself
A person doing HVACR work in an existing building he or she owns and occupies as a home is exempt from licensing but must still follow HVACR rules and get any local permits and inspections (A.C.A. 17-33-102).
