Maine

What the license should say
In Maine you'll see one of these on an HVAC contractor's card, bid or truck:
- Master oil burner and/or solid fuel technician
- Individual; oil and solid fuel heating equipment.
- Journeyman oil burner and/or solid fuel technician
- Individual; works under a master.
- Propane and natural gas technician

- Limited electrician, refrigeration category

Hiring a company, not a person?
No separate business license; a person, firm or corporation that makes an oil, solid fuel, propane or natural gas installation without a Fuel Board license, or employs an unlicensed person to do so, violates 32 MRS 18103
Doing it yourself
A person may make an oil, solid fuel, propane or natural gas burning installation in a single-family residence they occupy as their bona fide personal abode if it conforms to board rules (32 MRS 18104(7))
