What the license should say
In Maine you'll see one of these on a plumber's card, bid or truck:
- Master plumber
- Individual; may contract and supervise journeymen and trainees.
- Journeyman plumber
- Individual; works under a master plumber.
- Trainee plumber
- Individual; works under direct supervision of a master or journeyman.
Hiring a company, not a person?
No separate business license was found; a license is required for any individual engaged in plumbing and municipalities may not require their own plumber licenses
Doing it yourself
A person may do plumbing in a single-family residence they occupy as their bona fide personal abode if the work conforms to board rules (32 MRS 3302)
