HVAC licenses in
Missouri
Missouri has no statewide license for HVAC contractors. Cities and counties license them.
There's no state search to run. Check the license with the city or county where the work is (see below).
What the license should say
In Missouri you'll see one of these on an HVAC contractor's card, bid or truck:
- Mechanical supervisor or master pipe fitter (local)
- Individual; for example Kansas City certificates of qualification for mechanical contractors.
Hiring a company, not a person?
No state license; cities and counties license mechanical contractors, for example Kansas City requires a certificate of qualification and a contractor license
Doing it yourself
Missouri has no state mechanical law, so homeowner rules are set locally, for example St. Louis issues mechanical permits only to mechanical contractors licensed by the city
City and county licenses
Missouri leaves HVAC contractor licensing to local governments. These are the largest with an online search.
-
City of Kansas City
City Planning and Development Department, Permits Division (contractor licensing)
-
St. Louis County
Department of Transportation and Public Works, Mechanical Licensing (certified mechanical contractor list)
-
City of Springfield
Building Development Services, business license search (contractor categories)
Not listed? Call the building department for the city or county where the work is.
