Plumber licenses in
Missouri
Missouri has no statewide license for plumbers. Cities and counties license them.
There's no state search to run. Check the license with the city or county where the work is (see below).
What the license should say
In Missouri you'll see one of these on a plumber's card, bid or truck:
- Master plumber (local)
- Individual; for example a Kansas City certificate of qualification.
- Journeyman plumber (local)
- Individual; for example a Kansas City certificate of qualification.
Hiring a company, not a person?
No state license; cities and counties license plumbing contractors, for example Kansas City requires a business license plus a certificate of qualification before a contractor license
Doing it yourself
Missouri has no state plumbing law, so homeowner rules are set locally, for example St. Louis issues plumbing permits only to plumbing contractors licensed by the city
City and county licenses
Missouri leaves plumber licensing to local governments. These are the largest with an online search.
-
City of Kansas City
City Planning and Development Department, Permits Division (contractor licensing)
-
St. Louis County
Department of Transportation and Public Works, Plumbing Licensing (licensed master plumbers list)
-
City of Springfield
Building Development Services, business license search (contractor categories)
Not listed? Call the building department for the city or county where the work is.
