HVAC licenses in
New Jersey
New Jersey licenses HVAC contractors statewide.
Official search run by NJ State Board of Examiners of HVACR Contractors at newjersey.mylicense.com.
What the license should say
In New Jersey you'll see one of these on an HVAC contractor's card, bid or truck:
- Master HVACR contractor license
- Individual licensed by the state to work as a master HVACR contractor; renewed every two years.
Hiring a company, not a person?
A person may not work as a master HVACR contractor unless licensed by the Board (N.J.S.A. 45:16A-7), and municipalities may not issue their own master HVACR contractor licenses.
Doing it yourself
A single family home owner who personally occupies the dwelling and does the HVACR work himself is exempt once all required permits are obtained, except that work involving CFC or HCFC refrigerants must be done by a licensed Master HVACR contractor (N.J.S.A. 45:16A-9).
