What the license should say
In Oregon you'll see one of these on a plumber's card, bid or truck:
- Journeyman plumber (JP)
- Individual who performs all plumbing installation, alterations or remodels.
- Residential water-heater installer (WHI)
- Individual limited to replacing existing water heaters in one- and two-family dwellings.
- Plumbing contractor
- Business licensed by BCD to contract for plumbing work.
Hiring a company, not a person?
Plumbing contractor license from BCD, plus a CCB contractor license for the business.
Doing it yourself
ORS 693.020 lets a person who owns, leases or operates residential property repair existing plumbing there without a license, but not install, remodel or alter plumbing.
